Howdah Stories; Brighter Futures - Niddhi's Story

Every time you buy a pack of Howdah Snacks, we give a FREE school lunch to a child in need throughout India, through our partnership with the incredible charity Akshaya Patra. Hunger is one of the biggest barriers to education. Hungry children cannot concentrate, and many parents can't afford to educate their children because of the cost of school meals. Our school meals are often the only nutritious meal they’ll get in a day so, by encouraging these children to go to school and feeding them properly, we give their parents the motivation to support their children's education and, most importantly, we can help the children themselves to get the skills they need to build brighter futures.
Giving back is the core of our brand, and we want to share the stories of some of the incredible children we support

This is Niddhi's Story:

Niddhi is a bright student at her school in Chirag Nagar, Thane. She loves the subject of Mathematics, which most students dread! Niddhi has always liked problem solving and numbers and her main motivation for attending school is her friends, the food she receives and the subjects she learns.

Suresh and Sushma are Nidhhi’s parents and they take good care of her despite their difficulties.  While her father does welding work, her mother takes care of the household chores and runs the family. Her parents belong to the village of Chiplun situated in the Konkan belt of Maharashtra and migrated to Mumbai 15 years ago for work and liveliood. They speak Marathi at home and often miss their native place lapped amidst nature’s serenity. The family stays in a rented house in Thane and live in a community wherein most people work as labourers, watchmen and blue collared jobs.

Niddhi enjoys the mid-day meal served in school by the Akshaya Patra Foundation and relishes it every single day. Her favourite meal is the Khichadi, which she always looks forward to! She likes the meals because they are hot and she gets unlimited quantity as much as her stomach desires. Moreover, because of the mid-day meals, she has been attending school regularly and having meals daily.

She desires to become a Scientist when she grows up and do research on the pertinent issues of our times.
